Professional athletes 40 and above that are still great
1. Adam Vinatieri, 46, NFL Placekicker
A majority of professional sports athletes across various sports will see their ability to perform at a high level deteriorate once they get into their mid to late 30s. The simple truth behind this is due to the way the body ages over time and the toll that years and years of performing at a high level can take on the human body. Some athletes, similar to fine wine, can actually age and perform better, the older they get. This could be due to a number of factors, such as their natural talent, the way they’ve taken care of their body over the years, the type of competition they compete in, the level of competition within their sport or simply because they’ve just got a longer shelf life at the top of their game. We take a look at some of the most notable athletes that are still currently excelling at their professional sport, or did at one point in the past. What may surprise you is how some of the professional sports mentioned in the list are vigorous and extremely intense sports that challenge the body in plenty of ways.
