The Chilean mining accident occurred in 2010 when 33 miners became trapped after a cave-in of a 121-year-old copper-gold mine. The miners were trapped 2,300ft underground from the entrance of the mine. The news spread across the world in a very short period of time, however, after 69 days trapped underground the miners were finally rescued by the authorities, all safe and alive. The rescue mission was broadcasted live and watched by an estimated 1 billion people.
