3. Hookah (Qalyān / Shisha)

Hookah was invented in Persia during the Safavid dynasty. While the term Hookah derives from the Arabic word “huqqa”, qalyān was it’s original term. Modern day terms refer to the Hookah as “Shisha” which derives from the Persian word shīshe, which stands for glass, a fundamental part of the structure of a qalyān.
