The highest peak in the Middle East is Mount Damāvand, in Iran. The mountain and potentially active volcano peaks at 18,410 ft. Located close to the Caspian Sea, Mount Damāvand is approximately 66 kilometres northeast of the capital city of Tehran. Many parts of the mountain areas are covered in snow, due to the cold climate at various altitudes.
