The National team’s volleyball captain, Saeed Maroof is a popular figure with many Iranians across the world. The star player shares plenty of pictures with his 2 million followers on Instagram. Maroof, who is 32 years old, is one of the most well known faces in the professional volleyball world, due to his expert skills and notable appearance. In the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic qualifying games, he was named as the best setter, which is a valuable position that helps the team score points. He’s also been named most valuable player in previous Asian Championships and Olympic games. He was voted Iranian sportsmen of the year in 2015/2016 season by Iranian TV. He was born in Urmia, Iran, in the West Azarbaijan province into a family of volleyball players, which is how he found his passion in the sport.
